During the rapidly evolving Japanese music scene of the 1990s—when the industry was shifting from traditional kayōkyoku to modern J-pop—Kirinji emerged with a uniquely sophisticated sound. Blending influences from rock, country, jazz, and soul with refined arrangements and intricate chord work, the group crafted stylish pop songs paired with highly literary lyrics that resonated deeply with listeners.
Two early EPs released in 1997—KIRINJI and Fuyu no Orca—shortly before their major-label debut, have long been cherished by devoted fans. Though these recordings were later issued together as the CD and digital compilation 2 in 1, this marks the first time the material has been released on vinyl.
The collection includes alternate versions of songs such as “Kaze wo Ute” and “Fuyu no Orca,” which later appeared on their debut album, as well as four rare early recordings that were not included on any album, including “Akaneiro Shita Ano Sora wa” and “Kyūjitsu Dia.” Instrumental versions of the tracks are also included.
