Donald BYRD “Places & Spaces” (Blue Note Classic Vinyl Series) LP

Places & Spaces puts the focus on trumpet-led hard bop that later opened into soul-jazz, funk, and electric production.

• Byrd works with producers Larry and Fonce Mizell on a polished blend of jazz trumpet, funk rhythm sections, layered vocals, and synthesizers.
• Tracks such as “Wind Parade” and “Change (Makes You Want to Hustle)” became favorites far beyond straight-ahead jazz circles.
• The album is a key document of Byrd's 1970s jazz-funk period and later became a rich source for hip-hop sampling.

For fans of Lee Morgan, Freddie Hubbard, and Herbie Hancock.
