Horses treats a rock band as a vehicle for poetry, tension and release. Patti Smith's voice moves from speech into melody as the arrangements gather behind her, with even the longest pieces retaining a strong physical pulse. This anniversary edition pairs the original album with archival material that illuminates the work taking shape.
